In retrospect, as someone who was a teenager through possibly the most passive era for music since rock n roll was invented (the 90s), it’s easy to see why punk began.  The peace and love message of the 1960s must have been a little wearing and in the same way that every teenager resets the stupidity of the generation who went before, the 1970s’ kids responsible for starting the punk scene were probably no different.
